The Asus eee PC (Linux) uses Xandros Linux. Installing and updating programs is done via "repositories".
There's a file which specifies which repositories to use. By default, these are the ASUS repositories.
Firstly, get yourself connected to the internet via a wired connection.
Now fire-up a terminal window. Work > File Manager > Tools > Terminal.
This will give you a command line with a "/home/user>" prompt.
Do this:
/home/user> sudo apt-get update
Wait until it's finished, and then do this:
/home/user> sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This will take about 5 minutes.
Then type "exit", and reboot the machine.Disconnect the LAN cable.
Now log in and hit the "Wireless Network" button under the "Internet" tab. Select your wireless connection, enter the WPA key, and connect. You may also want to select the "connect at boot" option on the far-right drop down.
That's it. You'll now find that you have a number of options in the "Update Programs" option under the "Settings" tab. Update everything. Especially the Anti-Virus. (It'll take a while..)
