I can't believe how FAST (1.5 minutes), and easy this is..
Firstly, you need to know that the eee pc has a restore partition built-in, so you don't need to faff about with Cds, DVDs or USB sticks. All you need to do is trigger the restore procedure.
On boot-up, keeping pressing F9. You should then get a boot menu with three options. Option 3 is "Restore Factory Settings". Select it, and hit enter. Now say yes to anything it asks. When finished, it'll reboot.
Enter a new username and password (twice).
That's it. Honest.
Now you will want to install updates..
* What? F9 doesn't work?
On boot-up, select F2. Switch OFF silent boot. Switch OFF quick boot. Save settings.
Now reboot and try F9 again. Sorted.
